Huachuca Happiness

We are stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. We have been here since April 2010. It's not a place everyone loves but from what I can tell, there isn't any one post that everyone loves. I am in the minority when I say I love it here! Most people would prefer to have more trees & green grass. As you can see from the headline photo, the grass is brown. This is normal! I am not a fan of yard work so this suites me just fine!  :)  By yard work I mean grass mowing & weed eating. Gardening is a different thing to me!

I attempted to grow a vegetable garden last summer but failed miserably. Not sure if I just wasn't tending to it enough or what. I know others who grew veggies in their garden & they did just fine. I have never had problems growing a garden in the past, before we moved here. We even grew them in pots because we were told the soil is dirt & sand mixed. Plus there isn't enough nutrients in the ground to help the plants grow. Perhaps I just got bad plants!

This is the hummingbird capital of the USA! Make sure you get out & see the hummingbirds! They have hummingbird banding at the San Pedro House along the river. It is really a neat experience! You could even get to hold one :)http://www.sanpedroriver.org/fsprhome.shtml

We also have different creatures here. Javelinas, rattlesnakes, scorpions, wind scorpions (aka sun spiders), large Arizonan roaches, jackrabbits, black bears, mountain lions...as I am sure there are many other things I just can't remember! But don't let it stress you out. I have been here for a bit now & haven't seem most of these things. There is wildlife everywhere we live so its all a matter of having respect for nature & knowing what to do when we encounter certain things.

There are mountains all around. The post is right up against the Huachuca Mountains. You can also see the Dragoon Mountains, Mule Mountains, Whetstone Mountains & the Mustang Mountains. So lots of hiking to do around here! I am in love with the view:)

I have found almost all my friends from a Facebook group. There are several for this area but the only one I have found to be drama free is Huachuca Wives:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/huachucawives/

If you find yourself getting stationed here, I highly recommend this page! It is chalk full of information about the area. Things to do, places to go, events, get togethers...you name it! If the answer isn't on that page, then ask & I am sure someone will know the answer :)

Tombstone, Bisbee, Benson, Willcox, Fairbank, Parker Canyon Lake (out the west gate)...are
just a few of the small towns & areas around that I recommend you to visit. They are all neat in my opinion & full of history!
Tucson is about an hour away, Phoenix about 3 hours away.

Here are some things to check out to do around here as well! Cause I am so tired of people complaining there is nothing to do when there is PLENTY if only they would open their eyes & try something different :)
